Contextos y Subsistencia: Una aproximación desde el sitio Morro 5 (Mira Blau)

Resumen

La modificación urbana de la ciudad de Arica ha generado intervenciones en el casco antiguo de
la ciudad. A los pies del Morro y junto a la Catedral San Marcos de Arica, se identificó un denso
conchal con evidencia cultural tanto histórica como prehispánica. La arqueología de rescate ha
permitido caracterizar los diferentes componentes culturales que ha albergado este yacimiento. El
sitio arqueológico Morro 5, se emplaza por debajo la Catedral San Marcos de Arica, abarcando parte
de la Plaza Colón y el terreno donde se construirá el edificio Mira Blau II. A partir de este último,
identificado como Morro 5 (Mira Blau), se ha podido constatar contextos pre y post hispánicos.

The urban modification of Arica city has generated interventions in the historic center of the city. At the foot
of “El Morro” and next to the San Marcos Cathedral of Arica, a dense shell midden has been identified
containing cultural evidence both historical and prehispanic. Rescue archaeology allows to characterize the
different cultural elements that this site has harbored. The archaeological site ‘Morro 5’, is located below the
San Marcos Cathedral of Arica, and it covers a part of the Colon Square and the area where the Mira Blau
II building will be built. It is from the last, identified as Morro 5 (Mira Blau), where it has been possible to
confirm pre and post hispanic contexts.
